Revision for Year Two During the holidays, I will like you to reinforce the following skills with your Year One child. English Skills  Reads appropriate texts aloud using reading strategies. Uses comprehension strategies to answer literal and inferred questions. Spell 150 high frequency words. Use nouns, verbs, adverbs and adjectives correctly in sentences.  Use basic conjunctions, contractions and similes in their writing.  Write recounts, procedures, narratives and persuasives, with neat writing and approximately one page in length.  Create texts with supporting images using word processing programs. Apply basic proof reading and editing skills. Mathematics Skills  Orally count starting from 0 by 2s to 100.  Read and understand basic facts to 20 (addition and subtraction). Represent and solve simple addition and subtraction problems to 30 using concrete materials, illustrations, counting on and counting back, partitioning and rearranging parts.

Write one or more simple sentences to retell events and experiences.  Mathematics Skills  Add and subtract small quantities. Change collections to make number bonds to 10. Identify the days of the week and link to specific familiar events. Name 3D shapes – sphere, cube. Sort 2D and 3D shapes. Pose questions about themselves, events and familiar objects. Represent responses using simple displays. Use data displays to answer simple questions.

A wonderful journey!  From Miss Ryan and Mrs Webber Dear Parents  Our year together has now come to an end. It has been an  amazing journey . Each morning, we have looked forward to seeing the children’s’ bright smiling faces walk into the classroom. These smiles always made us feel happy and contributed to a pleasant and enjoyable atmosphere. Our journey has seen the children develop an  enthusiasm  and  love  for learning. They have learnt to have a go at challenging activities and complete activities to the best of their ability. We are very proud of all the children and congratulate them on their wonderful efforts and achievement in Pre Primary/ Year One. We wish the children all the very best for next year. Room 7 and 21 Christmas Lunch  A Little Celebration! Dear Parents We are nearing the end of a fantastic year and so to celebrate we have planned a special day for the children. On the  12th December (Wednesday) , the children will be having a Christmas lunch. What to bring:  Your child needs to bring a plate of food or drink to share at our lunch. Please see the list on the window and write your name next to the food or drink that your child will bring to the lunch. Morning Tea:  Please bring morning tea (as usual). Swimming Lessons In Weeks Seven and Eight, the children will be attending eight swimming lessons. Our timeslot for swimming is 1:20pm to 3:00pm. I will provide you with further information on the swimming lessons during the term.   O ur swimming routine The children will get changed into their bathers before lunch. They are required to wear their school shirt (over their bathers), thongs, towel (wrapped around them) and goggles (if needed) to the swimming pool. Please ensure they have a plastic bag or small bag to put their items in at the swimming pool. Everything (including the bag) must be clearly labelled with your child’s first name and surname. Welcome to Term Four!  From Miss Ryan...  The Clever Caterpillars have had an excellent start to Term Four. Over the last four weeks, the children have been involved in many great events...   Dancing On the 8 th  October, the children commenced dancing lessons. Congratulations to all the children for their outstanding effort and enthusiasm displayed during the dancing lessons. Keep up the fantastic work! Year Level Challenge Presentation On the 12 th  October, the children attended a whole school assembly. At the assembly, the results for the Term Three Year Level Challenge were announced.  Well done to Thanuja for being the most improved from Room 7. Whole School Science Superstars At the beginning of the term, the children were invited to present a report on a science related topic to their peers. All the children were creative, used their imagination and had fun in preparing and presenting their science report. Congratulat

Last week of Term Three!  Learning Journey  Thank you to all the parents and grandparents for visiting our classroom and participating in the Learning Journey. It was lovely to see you taking a moment with your child to discuss their learning and view samples of their work. Thank you for completing the 'Two Stars and A Wish' with your child. This information will support the children in forming their English and Mathematics Goals for Term Four.   Junior Assembly On the 14th September, the children attended their last Junior Assembly for Term Three. Congratulations to Liam, Kabilan and Laura for receiving their well-deserved Merit Certificates. I am very impressed with your wonderful effort towards learning. Keep it up! An Amazing Fortnight! Science Week Throughout Week Five, the Clever Caterpillars participated in a range of exciting science activities to celebrate Science Week.  These included: A Science show Science competitions A tabloid afternoon A BIG thank you to Mr Sanderson for organising a fantastic Science Week ☺ Book Week In Week Six, the Clever Caterpillars participated in a range of  integrated activities  to celebrate  Book Week.  The activities included:  D rawing a portrait of their favourite book character. Delivering a 5 minute presentation about their favourite book character to their peers. Planning, designing and creating a story about a pirate. Completing a scavenger hunt with their buddies. Reading with their buddies in class. Painting posters for the excellent book week display by Mr Sanderson and his class.
