What skills to revise during the holidays?  During the holidays, I will like you to reinforce the following skills with your child. Mathematics Skills  Number and Algebra Reading, writing and ordering numbers to 100. Making and drawing collections to 50. Locating numbers 1 to 100 on the number line. Orally counting to 200 and from 100 from any starting point. Orally counting starting from 0 by 2s, 5s and 10s to 100. Reading the word numerals for 1 to 20. Reading and understanding basic facts to 20 (addition). An Amazing Term One! Over the last ten weeks, I have seen the students develop an enthusiasm and love for learning in Year One. The students are learning to have a go at challenging activities and complete activities to the best of their ability. Special Events In Term One, the students celebrated… St. Patrick’s Day On the 17 th March, the students celebrated St. Patrick’s Day. As part of the celebrations, the students wore little green hats, made Irish flags, went on a leprechaun hunt and created self-portraits using a range of art and craft materials. All the students had a wonderful day learning about St Patrick’s Day, as well as interesting facts about Ireland.  Harmony Week Classroom Activities The students participated in classroom activities focusing on inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone. What are we learning in Mathematics?  Term One Mathematics Skills  Number and Algebra   Counting In Room Seven, the students have been learning how to orally count from 0 by 2s, 5s and 10s to 100. To support the students, I have been incorporating some entertaining songs into our daily Mathematics Warm Ups. The songs are: Counting from 1 to 100 Song     Counting by 10s Song   Counting by 5s Song   Counting by 2s Song    At home, I encourage you to provide opportunities for your child to orally count from 0 by 2s, 5s and 10s to 100.
