Week 11 Room 7 Blog Post

Hello everyone and welcome to the final week of Term Two!

The Clever Caterpillars in Room 7 have worked very hard this term and I am so proud of their efforts.

Literacy focus:

All students in Room 7 would benefit from daily reading over the school holidays. By simply asking your child to write one or two sentences about each book they read, we can continue to develop their sentence structure and reading comprehension skills. A focus for our Clever Caterpillars is to use capital letters correctly, apply the correct punctuation (. ! or ?), and to make sure each sentence makes sense (contains a subject and a verb).

I have included new High Frequency Word lists in most student’s practice folders. Feel free to highlight any words students can read without sounding out, and to continue to practise any words they are still sounding out. This will help them read with fluency.

Numeracy focus:

Room 7’s maths focus is to practise simple addition and subtraction of 2-digit numbers, with an additional focus on correct place value (ones, tens, hundreds). Also, to practise word problems. Why not talk through some simple maths problems you encounter in daily life, like when going shopping or making a recipe. Involving children in the process helps them to understand the importance of Mathematics as a skill we all use daily.

Please enjoy the below photos from our Assembly in Week 9. Congratulations to our merit certificate winners: Hosna, Zuha, Jasmine, Ethan W (Science Award) and Gracie (Values award). So very well deserved! Also, congratulations to Room 7’s Super Scientist finalists, Ethan W and Gracie! Once again, thank you for everyone’s contribution, whether it was painting backdrops or practising lines with your children – our combined effort made it such a wonderful experience for the student’s in Room 7.

Wishing you all a safe, warm and happy holidays!

All my very best,

Mrs T J
