What skills to revise during the holidays?

During the holidays, I will like you to reinforce the following skills with your child.


Mathematics Skills 

Number and Algebra

  • Orally count to 200 and from 100 from any starting point.
  • Orally count starting from 0 by 2s to 100.
  • Identify odd and even numbers to 20.
  • Read and understand basic facts to 40 (addition and subtraction) 
  • Represent and solve simple addition and subtraction problems to 40 using concrete materials, illustrations and counting on.
  • Count collections to 100 or more by partitioning numbers using place value.
  • Accurately share and group objects equally.
  • Understand and describe the concept of one-half as part of a whole.
  • Recognise, describe and order Australian coins and notes according to value. 

·        Measurement and Geometry

  • Measure and compare capacity using uniform informal units.
  • Tell the time (hour and half hour).
  • Give and follow specific directions to familiar locations (positional words, clockwise/anticlockwise).

Statistics and Probability

  • Choose simple questions and gather responses to collect data.
  • Draw simple data displays. 
  • Represent data with tally marks.
     
   English Skills

  • Identify vowel digraphs, which is when two vowels come together and make one sound (ie-tie, ea-beast, ea-bread and ee- bee)
  • Use nouns, verbs, adverbs and adjectives correctly in sentences. 
  • Use basic conjunctions, contractions and similes in their writing. 
  • Use a variety of sentence beginnings (openers) in their work. 
  • Become aware of prefixes and suffixes.
  • Spell the first 150 high frequency words. 
  • Write narratives, with neat writing and approximately one page in length. 
  • Apply basic proof reading and editing skills.
  • Explore features of plot, character and setting in different types of literature.
