  Term One Learning Outcomes       What are the children learning?  English  Recount writing using all the components of vocabulary, connectives, openers and punctuation.  Reading comprehension skills and decoding words.  Investigate different areas of grammar such as nouns, adjectives and verbs. Spell a range of new sight words and learning the Year 1 Phonics Sounds. Mathematics  Read, write and order numbers to 100. Counting on and counting back to 100.  Subitise collections up to 15. Orally count starting from 0 by 2’s, 5’s, 10’s to 100. Read the word numerals for 1 to 20. Understand the language of addition and subtraction.  Read and understand basic facts to 20 (addition and subtraction). Represent and solve simple addition and subtraction problems to 30 using concrete  materials, illustrations,  counting on and counting back,  partitioning and rearranging  parts. Introduction    What has been happening in Room 7? Dear Parents It has truly been a fantastic start to Year One. We have been extremely busy settling into brand new routines, which we are continuing to master. The children have embraced all new learning tasks with such a positive attitude and are very keen to do their best. It has been an absolute pleasure to witness this and we know that we will have a wonderful year together.  Throughout the year if you have any questions or queries please do not hesitate to come and see me to discuss these. To have a successful year, we must work together to ensure the best possible outcomes for your child. I am extremely approachable, honest and very appreciative of parent feedback.  Thank you so much for your support and for assisting to make the transition into Year One a smooth one.
